Because gas prices have been so crazy, more people have been turning to scooters and mopeds to get around and save some money by going at least a little green by saving green. Gas powered scooters have been fairly popular as they can get 100 miles per gallon in some cases and have enough power to keep you up to speed with all of the other cars on the road. They may be annoying to try to get around in some cases and this makes some wonder if they should be outlawed, but as long as drug dealers are losing their driving privileges and gas prices remain out of site, we will have to live in a world where we must cope with those frugal little vehicles.
Most of these gas powered scooters can hold one or 2 gallons of gas, which can allow you to get around at least for a few days, depending how far you need to go. For those that work in the city, it can be handy to be able to use the scooters to get around traffic or even take some back roads and have a more relaxed trip to work. The only problem may be the helmets that are notorious for causing some bad hair days, and that's no way to start the work day.
Some of the biggest brands in scooters are the Yamaha, Honda, Vespa, Suzuki and Xtreme brands. The later is a new one on the list but has very affordable prices so I felt it necessary to mention it.
Even electric scooters have been getting better and better and are now able to travel at speeds of 60 miles per hour on some models. The street legal qualifications for gas powered scooters is 49 cc's, but since an electric scooter does not use the same type of engine it can cause some confusion as to what is legal and what is not.
Because the electric scooters were usually too slow to be driven on main roads they have not been legal, but now changes are being made in the law. You will need to check with your own county and city to see what the local laws are on this because they can vary greatly from state to state.
